Wrestling Wrap: Brawley Competes At 5 Counties

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — The Brawley Union High wrestling team traveled and competed in the 5 Counties wrestling tournament here in one of the toughest tournaments in California.

The Wildcats returned home with two medals and an 11th place finish overall as a team.

Brawley’s Victor Gonzalez finished sixth at 138-pounds and Daniel Juaregui also finished sixth in the 195 weight class.

“We started out great but when we started hitting those tougher wrestlers in the later rounds we were not wrestling good,” Brawley head coach Tony Leon said. “We’re not where we should be right now.”

Brawley will have to regroup quickly as they will host Imperial High in an Imperial Valley League duel on Wednesday.

“I expect us to be ready to wrestle, go in there, and not give up a point,” Leon said.
