CALIPATRIA — Two prison visitors were arrested after officers say they found drugs in the cars they drove into prison grounds in separate incidents.
Calipatria State Prison (CSP) officials say both arrests were made Saturday.
The first incident happened when Asahi Denise Paul, 24, drove up to the gate house officer, who notice a strong smell of marijuana coming from her car.
The Long Beach, California resident consented to a search of her person and car according to officers. There, they were able to find 14.3 grams of pot inside a red plastic container and one hand-rolled joint.
The second incident happened when Jasmine Sade Blount, 30, was visiting inmate, Izear Johnson, who is serving a prison sentence for robbery. Blount drove up to the prison grounds where the gate house officer noticed, once again, a strong smell of pot. Officers say they found 5.6 grams of ‘wax’, a concentrated form of marijuana, in two latex bindles inside Blount’s car.
The evidence linked Blount and Johnson, who was placed in administrative segregation, according to CSP officials.
The contraband had an estimated prison value of almost $8,000.
Both women were booked into Imperial County Jail and could face three to five years in prison if convicted.
