A movement is spreading across California asking parents, school athletes, and sports' fans to rally Friday, January 15, at 4 p.m. to move politicians to open sports back up to the youth.
College, professional, and club sports have resumed playing, albeit traveling to other states, while local parks and beaches show volleyball games, basketball pick-up games, and spontaneous soccer matches.
However, the clock is ticking on high school seniors' last chance to play and earn scholarships, for many the only ticket to higher education. As 2021 begins, and Governor Newsom has a proclivity to shutting down the State with no let up in sight, it may not just be the seniors that lose out, but juniors as well.
Missing a season or two is extremely detrimental to an athlete's sports development. They may never reach the skill set they would have otherwise achieved. An open door is quickly closing.
Therefore, schools, parents, and others are calling on the various communities to rally at courthouses or other central locations January 15 at 4 p.m. The movement is trending under #letthemplayca on social media.
