CALIPATRIA- In the span of 8 months, the Calipatria Hornets football team have gone through many alterations which looked to derail their season even before it happened. Mike Swearengin resigned just one week before the season was set to begin. With the program in a state of flux, athletic director Joshua Wise quickly appointed JV head coach Keith Smith to lead the varsity. With arguably many odds stacked against the undermanned Hornets squad, they were able to salvage what was thought to be a lost season, posting a 3-6 record.
But once again, it seems that the 2020 Calipatria Hornets will once again face the same questions that plagued them a season ago. On Thursday, Keith Smith resigned as head coach for Calipatria after just one season at the helm. Sources said that Smith informed his team of his resignation shortly afterwards, during an early morning weight room session.
Smith's departure will leave the Hornets searching for their 3rd head coach in less than a year. Calipatria athletic director Joshua Wise was unavailable for comment at the time of Smith's resignation.
