EL CENTRO — With the last handful of games remaining in the 2019 regular season before playoff time, the top three teams in the conference record-wise are Central, Brawley, and Imperial.

The Lady Spartans are 7–1 in league play and 16–9 overall. One game ahead of the pack, Central still has the top tier of IVL teams remaining on schedule. The Lady Spartans are feeding off the bat of Karmina Becerra who is hitting .564. Becerra gas racked up 22 hits, 14 runs, in 39 at-bats, as well as tagged five homers and knocked in 20 RBIs along the way. Janyssa Martin has helped her squad out from atop the mound with an ERA of 2.72 in 61.2 plate appearances with 70 strikeouts. The Lady Spartans will face the Calexico Bulldogs April 30.

With the best all-around record in IVL at 21–5, Brawley is in second place with a conference record of 6–1. The Lady Wildcats can easily creep into the league’s top slot with five divisional games left. Brianna Hoffman is leading the way from behind the plate for Brawley with a batting average of .470. Hoffman has accumulated 31 hits and eight runs in 22 games played. She has also belted out two homers and drove in 20 runs thus far in the season. Lilliana Martinez is the Lady Wildcats top pitcher with an ERA of 2.69 and has produced 13 wins in 19 plate appearances. Brawley will travel to Palo Verde  April 30 to take on the Lady Yellowjackets.

Imperial is the next IVL powerhouse in contention for first place in the league. At 7–2, the Lady Tigers are a full game out of first place. With three games left to play before the conclusion of the 2019 regular season, it appears the Lady Tigers would have to win out to nab IVL’s top slot, assuming no catastrophic melt-down by Central and Brawley. Anahi Grijalva has been the Lady Tiger’s female version of Babe Ruth as she has consistently excelled atop the mound and behind the plate. Grijalva is the most consistent batter on the team with a batting average of .421 in 19 at-bats and chucks the ball at an ERA of just 1.72 in seven plate appearances. Imperial will host Southwest April 30.
