Central's Angel Nava-Esparza (#43) barrels through the Wildcat d-line to fall forward for a Spartan first down during the CUHS 41-7 Bell Game victory over Brawley at Cal Jones Field November 1.

EL CENTRO — The 2019 varsity football regular season has concluded for many of our IVL and Manzanita league teams, but six local squads have punched their tickets to advance to the postseason.

The IVL champion Spartans swept through the conference unscathed at 5-0 and ended the 2019 regular season with an overall record of 8-2. Central’s résumé was impressive enough to earn CUHS the number five seed in the CIF Division III San Diego Section playoff where the Spartans will host number 12 seed, Mt. Carmel, in the first round of CIF action at 7 p.m. November 8.

The second place IVL representative Wildcats finished off the regular season with a conference record of 4-1 and overall record of 7-3. Brawley earned the number seven seed rights in the CIF Division III San Diego Section playoff where the Wildcats will host number 10 ranked Kearny High at 7 p.m. November 8.

Imperial managed to come away with third place IVL honors at 3-2 in league action and a 5-5 overall season record. Imperial was awarded the number 11 slot in the CIF Division III San Diego section playoff where the Tigers will travel to face the number six seeded Mater Dei Catholic at 7 p.m. November 8.

Palo Verde was the last IVL unit to make the post season with a 2-3 divisional record and a 5-5 season performance. The Yellowjackets earned the number seven slot in the CIF Division V CIF playoffs where Palo Verde will host number 10 seeded Clairmont in the first round November 8 at 7 p.m.

For the Manzanita teams, Vincent Memorial went undefeated in conference action at 3-0 and finished off the season with an overall record of 9-1. The Scots earned a first-round bye as the number one seeded team in the CIF Division V San Diego Section tournament. Vincent Memorial will host the winner between number eight seeded El Cajon and number nine seeded Mt. Empire in the second round November 15 at 7 p.m.

Holtville’s regular season performance of 8-2 overall and 2-1 in league earned the Vikings the number three position in the CIF Division V San Diego Section playoff, as well as first round bye. Holtville will host the winner of number 11 seed, San Ysidro, and number six ranked Mission Bay High in the second round November 15 at 7 p.m.
