Aguilas/ Monterrey

MEXICALI — The Aguilas post season aspirations ran into a red hot Sultanes squad Saturday, January 9, in Monterrey where the home team out hit the visiting Frontiersmen as Mexicali was ousted 7-2.

A pitcher’s duel defend the first two and a half innings until a hit batsmen followed by a two-run homer by Pablo Orlando over the right field wall gave Monterrey their first lead of the contest at 2-0.

The Aguilas buckled down and responded in the top of the fifth inning when a Luis Juarez RBI single to right field brought around Luis Santos, which brought the Feathered Fliers to within one at 2-1.

Monterrey muscled in some breathing room in the sixth inning with a four-run rally off the bats of Robert Valenzuela (two-run RBI), Antonio Lamas (RBI), and Gilbert Galavize (RBI) as the Sultanes ballooned their lead to 6-1.

Mexicali managed to put up another run in the top of the seventh inning when Juarez batted in Santos, for the second time of the contest, on a line drive to left field.

Galavize replied in the bottom of the eighth inning with an RBI line drive of his own to left field which drove in Valenzuela who represented Monterrey’s final score of the game.

The Aguilas were unable to muster a comeback in their last at-bat and were dealt another post season loss at 7-2. The Aguilas are now 2-4 in playoff action.
