IMPERIAL —  The best of the best gathered together to compete against each other in the Small Animal Round Robin displaying their showmanship talent this past Tuesday, during the Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta.

The top two youths who placed first and second in Junior, and the Senior divisions in one of the six qualifying small animals (pygmy goats, dogs, chickens, cavies, rabbits and ducks) moved on to the Small Animal Round Robin in 4-H, Grange, and FFA.

Livestock Assistant, Shannon Johnston from El Centro, explained that showmanship is the knowledge of and the ability to show that animal. In Small Animal Round Robin, all six species are shown.

Participants in the Small Animal Round Robin event are placed First through Twelfth. Every participant  received a showmanship rosette with a belt buckle going to first place.

“It’s the culmination of every showman’s goal, to make it to the top”, Johnston said.

Johnston went on to explain that it is a major accomplishment to compete in Round Robin and that the “belt buckle” is their trophy.
