CHP new logoEL CENTRO- On Monday, February 15, at 7:04 p.m., Wendy Ruelas, 24 years old from Calexico, was driving her 2008 Chevy Cobalt southbound on Dogwood Road with passengers, Jaqueline Ruelas and three children, slowing down as she reached the intersection at Cole Road.

At the same time Frank Morlet, 60 years old from El Centro, was traveling in a 2001 Honda Accord northbound, approaching Cole Road at approximately 55 mph.

Ruelas did not see the Accord and decided to make a left turn eastbound on Cole Rd, directly into the path of the oncoming vehicle.  Morlet applied the brakes but was unable to slow in time and collided into the right side of the Chevy.

Wendy and Jaqueline Ruelas suffered major injuries and two of the three children suffered minor injuries.

One child was flown to Rady Children’s Hospital by REACH helicopter.  All other parties and passengers were transported to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley.

The collision remains under investigation.
