KC WELDING EXPLOSION UPDATE
UPDATE 3:18 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2017
EL CENTRO – In the mid-morning of Wednesday, October 25, 2017, shortly after 10 a.m., an El Centro Fire Department Engine was traveling in the 2000 block of Dogwood Ave. and heard an explosion; noticing smoke coming from the 3000 block of Dogwood Ave. The Engine with three firefighters immediately responded to the area, also dispatching additional resources to the scene, said a press release from the El Centro Fire Department.
The first El Centro engine arrived on scene in less than a minute and began gathering information. A large tanker truck used to carry flammable liquids was being repaired when the explosion occurred, said the press release.
There was one person reportedly injured in the incident and REACH air medical services were dispatched along with multiple GCAS ambulances. Additional resources were requested, including an Engine and Ladder Truck from Imperial County Fire Department.
Firefighters began to work diligently, evacuating the area and securing the vehicle involved. Hose lines were deployed to cool the tanker and to prevent any further damage. Firefighters then made their way to the top of the tanker and used flammable liquids foam to suppress any vapors being released.
Incident Command was a Unified Command between the Imperial County Fire Department and El Centro Fire. The injured victim was airlifted to a hospital in Palm Springs. The incident lasted approximately 2 hours.

EL CENTRO – Reports are coming in that an explosion occurred between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at K.C. Welding, across from Dogwood Road near the Imperial Valley Mall.
Details on the explosion are not available from official sources as of press time. Injuries were reported, as medical aid was summoned and the County Fire Department was called to prepare a landing area for the Reach Air Medical helicopter. The extent of the injuries have not been released. Updates coming soon.
