IID Directors,

On behalf of the workers, apprentices, and contractors I represent, I want to thank Directors Hamby, Gonzalez, and Hanks for rejecting the previous board’s attempt to tie your hands to an illegal “agreement” that codified discrimination. Your brave stance has shown the way for others who have been asked to consider discriminatory and wasteful Project Labor Agreements.

If you have yet to see it here is the Desert Sun’s coverage of your action: Imperial Irrigation District in financial hole due to COVID-19 (desertsun.com)

As we go into 2021, we must continue to reject the bigotry and desire to appease big labor special interests that led to this “agreement” being crammed down our throats in the first place. The manner in which the vote for the PLA was conducted was egregious and it cannot be overstated how badly Mike Vlaming and some of your own staff let you down during the process.

Along those lines I would also like to state how refreshing it is to see the Board and the Board meetings being competently run. Previous board meetings, simply from a functional standpoint, were an embarrassment to observe.

Happy New Year.
