Urbana C. Vasquez

March 10, 1924 – October 17, 2019

Urbana C. Vasquez, 95, was born March 10, 1924, in Casa Grande, AZ., and passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in her home October 17, 2019.

Urbana resided in Holtville and spent many of her years dedicated to the Catholic faith as a catechist, Guadalupana, and choir member for St Joseph’s Catholic Church, as well as an agriculture worker for Maggio Packing Co. in Holtville from which she retired at the age of 63. Urbana married Manuel Vasquez on May 10, 1943, in Calexico. She was a loving wife to Manuel, mother, grandmother, sister, godmother and friend.

Urbana is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel O. Vasquez, her parents, Julia & Carlos Castro, her sons, Vonifacio and Raul Vasquez, her daughter-in-law, Martha Vasquez, her granddaughter, Marie Yvonne Gaskin, and her brothers, Abundio, Carlos, and Erasmo Castro.

She is survived by her sons, Ramiro (Marina) Vasquez of Holtville, Ralph (Norma) Vasquez of Imperial, and Manuel Rachel) Vasquez of Holtville; her daughters, Julia Vasquez of Holtville, Rufina (Fred) Valencia of Yucaipa, CA., and Angie (Armando) Silva of Holtville, plus her daughter-in-law, MaryAnn Vasquez. She is also survived by her 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, and by her brothers, Juan, Santiago, Julio, Arturo, and Basilio Castro; and her sisters, Angie de la Rosa and Rosario Gurule.   

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 1, from 6-9 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 560 Maple St. in Holtville, with a rosary at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at St. Joseph’s Church with Fr. Jose Alfredo Moreno officiating. Burial will be at Terrace Park Cemetery following the mass.
