Kathleen Kathy Duggins
July 1, 1947 Jan. 30, 2023
Kathy Duggins was a longtime resident of Imperial, CA. She moved here as a young bride after marrying Jim Duggins in 1967. They met while at San Diego State University. Jim told his family he had met the love of his life, and it's still true today.
Kathy held a BA from SDSU and was an educator. She had an unquenchable thirst for education. She served on the Board of Education for years in Imperial. She coached tennis and students she had still comment that her training and encouragement set them on the path for success.
Kathy was "larger than life" and a multi-talented woman. She let nothing stand in the way of her challenges or dreams and told others to do the same. Her motto was: You can be anything you want to be.
She was a pilot and served as Duggins Construction corporate pilot for years. Upon landing, she was often overlooked as those in charge sought a male pilot. She didn't bother to correct them. But she just told them what needed to be done with her plane.
She was a successful businesswoman, often ahead of her time. She created Video 2000 and ran it until she sold it. She owned and ran several companies, one being in property development.
She had a heart for helping young people find and fulfill their dreams. She lived every moment to the fullest and challenged others to do the same.
Her legacy will carry on forever, reminding us that each of us can control our attitudes and has the ability to strive for the stars. Those who knew her never had to wonder where they stood with her, as she was direct and honest. She was never afraid to take on any opportunity and dealt with others with honesty and integrity. She will be missed.
Kathy was preceded in death by her son, Donald Duggins; her mother and father, Bill and Katie Russell; and her brother, Jim Russell.
She leaves behind her husband, Jim Duggins; a daughter, Shauna Duggins; son-in-law, Brian Machleit; son, Tim Duggins; grandsons, Liam Machelit and Timmy Duggins; granddaughter, Kala Nicole Duggins; brother, Steve Russell; and many nieces and nephews.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, any donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
A Celebration of a life will be held at Del Rio Country Club in Brawley, CA, for friends and family on February 19, 2023, from 2-5 pm.
