Alejandro Cardenas Cota, 77, of Brawley, passed away on February 22. He was born July 17, 1942 in Brawley and graduated from Brawley Union High School in 1960. He served in the US Army from 1968-1979. Vietnam War Veteran was a Green Beret Special Forces and received the following medals: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Expert Rifle and Combat Infantryman Badge.

Alejandro is preceded in death by his parents, Jacinto Cota Sr. and Guadalupe Cardenas Cota; his brothers, Jacinto Cota Jr., Ruben Cota and Henry Cota; and his sisters, Elia Cota Allen, Amparo Cota Garate and Rosalva Cota Sambrano.

He is survived by his daughter, Helen Gonzales Guzman; his grandson, Ricardo P. Miramontes Jr.; and his siblings, Genaro Cota, Socorro Cota, Ernie Cota, and Gloria Cota, plus numerous nieces and nephews

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 10, from 6-9 p.m. at Frye Chapel & Mortuary in Brawley, with a rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be Wednesday, March 11, at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church in Brawley, with Fr. Andrew Kunambi officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery following the mass.
