EL CENTRO — Officers were dispatched to the area of 400 Commercial Avenue regarding a subject with a weapon trying to open the door to a residence Wednesday, October 21, according to an El Centro Police Department press release.

When officers arrived, they discovered the victim — a 55-year-old male — sustained multiple stab wounds and a gunshot wound. A black colored truck was seen leaving the area, which witnesses suspected was involved in the incident. The victim was later flown to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment with non-life-threatening injuries.

Jaime Ramirez — a 34-year-old from Chula Vista — was contacted and subsequently taken into custody as the suspect in the assault case Thursday, October 22, according to the release. Ramirez was later booked into the Imperial County Jail for violation of 664/187 PC (Attempted Murder). The current investigation is on-going. No citizens were injured during the incident.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Detective Adrian Chilpa at (760) 335-4662.
