IMPERIAL COUNTY — California Highway Patrol El Centro Area received a 911 call at approximately 2:45 p.m. Friday, February 12, and responded to a solo vehicle collision on Interstate 8 westbound, just east of In Ko Pah Park Road.

The report was of a white Ford F-150 that was on fire with the driver still inside of the vehicle. Responding units arrived after Imperial County Fire was on scene and the fire was extinguished.

The driver was reported to have collided into rocks on the center median, causing the vehicle fire and subsequent injuries. It is unclear why the vehicle veered off the road and into the rocks.

The fire fully engulfed the vehicle, but the driver was removed prior to the vehicle burning up. However, he suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Coroner for identification.

The collision remains under investigation.
