Cherry tree blossoms over the California State Capitol Building in Sacramento

"The actions of then California Secretary of State Alex Padilla, his agents, and Twitter are outrageous."
Los Angeles – The Center for American Liberty (@Liberty_Ctr) in conjunction with the Dhillon Law Group, Inc. (@dhillonlaw) and on behalf of the client Rogan O'Handley, filed a federal civil rights lawsuit yesterday against former California Secretary of State and now U.S. Senator Alex Padilla, current CA SoS Shirley Weber, Twitter, Team Biden campaign consultants SKDK, and others for the state's coordination with Twitter in permanently suspending conservative commentator and attorney Rogan O’Handley who tweeted concerns over the 2020 election on the platform.

A recent Freedom Of Information Request revealed a drove of emails that showed then California Secretary of State Alex Padilla directly coordinating with Democratic political consulting firm SKDK and Twitter to permanently suspend users who were critical of Padilla's job in conducting elections, according to a recent press release from Center for American Liberty.

One such user is the plaintiff in this lawsuit, attorney Rogan O'Handley, who spent years developing a verified Twitter account with 440,000 followers only to find his account permanently suspended at the direction of the Secretary of State's office, per the release.

"The actions of then California Secretary of State Alex Padilla, his agents, and Twitter are outrageous. Government cannot censor speech on the basis of viewpoint, but that is exactly what happened here," said the CEO of the Center for American Liberty, Harmeet Dhillon (@pnjaban) in the release. "Big tech companies have been using the 'private company' narrative to skirt First Amendment protections as they aggressively purge conservative voices from their platforms, but now we've seen the 'smoking gun' that Democratic political operatives and Democratic elected officials at the highest levels have been working hand-in-glove with these companies to suppress political dissenters. This is wholly un-American and we are looking forward to fighting this injustice."

The contract between SKDK and the State of California became very controversial which lead to the state Controller Betty Yee refusing to pay their $35 million invoice citing that it violated state rules. The Democratic super-majority California State legislature ended up paying the invoice through a budget allocation, the release said.

“For far too long, Big Tech has avoided accountability for their blatant censorship of conservatives, but that’s going to change because we now have smoking gun evidence showing that they were acting as agents of the government," O'Handley said in the release. "These are the types of infringements that the 1st Amendment was specifically designed to protect against. This case is for the millions of conservatives across America who are censored by social media with no repercussion. This is for every American’s right to free speech. This is for our constitution."
