Two vehicles, a 2014 Cadillac, and a 1999 Gulf Stream Spartan, and a pedestrian were involved in a fatal accident Sunday, December 1 at 6:30 p.m., according to a recent CHP report.

The California Highway Patrol reported they received a call of a traffic collision on I-8 east, east of Bonds Corner. The Cadillac driven by a woman from Glendale, AZ collided into the rear of the motor home.

Initially, witnesses reported the vehicles were on fire and the possibility of fatalities. Imperial County sheriff deputies arrived first on the scene and contacted the occupants of the motor home, Anacaris Zamora, 29, of Peoria, AZ and three minor passengers, 10, 6, and 4, all of Peoria. The CHP report listed Jaime Terriquez, 49, of Peoria as a pedestrian.

CHP units arrived on scene according to the report and both vehicles were fully engulfed in fire. Imperial County fire arrived and extinguished the fires, but not before both vehicles were completely burned.

The occupants of the motor home received minor injuries. Zamora complained of pain to her neck and minor abrasions. The ten-year-old male said he had neck pain, the six-year-old boy complained of neck pain, and the four-year-old girl had neck pain and minor abrasions. None of the Gulf Stream passengers were using safety belts. They were all transported to ECRMC, per the release.

CHP later determined and reported there was one occupant, the driver in the Cadillac, who succumbed to blunt force trauma. Her identity has not been confirmed.

The eastbound lanes of I-8 were shut down for approximately 30 minutes and the cause of the collision is still under investigation, per the report.
