EL CENTRO — El Centro police officers responded August 4 to the crossroads of Hamilton and Railroad in El Centro, just before 4 a.m., after a report of a possible shooting victim, according to a recent ECPD press release. The possible victim was said to have been in the area just prior to the call. 

The report said that the victim was located in the area of the railroad in an empty lot. He was deceased at the time the officers located him. The victim was identified as 24-year-old El Centro resident Christopher Erasmo Torres. 

Torres was said in the brief to have been in the area with his brother when they were confronted by a male individual. After a brief verbal exchange, the suspect drew a firearm and fired multiple rounds in the direction of the pair. Torres was struck by a projectile as a result of the confrontation. 

Officers contacted the Imperial County Coroner’s Office, Scientific Investigations Unit and the El Centro Police Department Criminal Investigations Division to begin a murder investigation.
