MEXICALI, B.C. — The Mexicali Águilas have acquired a young new prospect, right-handed pitcher Eduardo Vera Hernandez from the Venados de Mazatlán in exchange for Ramon Rios to reinforce the feathered fliers pitching staff for the 2019–2020 Pacific Mexican Baseball League.
Eduardo Vera Hernandez was born in Merida Yucatan on July 3, 1994, and has played for the Pittsburgh Pirates since 2012, and has also been on the roster for the Pirates and Indianapolis AAA teams.
Hernandez is listed as one of the top prospects of the Pittsburgh Pirates, who extended an invitation for Eduardo to join 2019 spring training. Hernandez was actively registered in four games with a record of two wins and no losses and marked an earned run average of 1.80 in 10 full innings while bagging five strikeouts.
During his tenure on the Pirates, Hernandez earned 27 wins, 17 losses, and punched out 339 strikeouts in 468⅔ innings for an overall ERA of 3.50.
In the Pacific Mexican Baseball League debut last season, Hernandez played for the Mazatlán Venados where he registered an ERA of 1.46 and tossed 16 strikeouts in 24⅓ innings.
