DESERT SHORES — A second-alarm fire has left families displaced in Desert Shores over Easter weekend as flames tore through five trailers at Desert Shores Trailer Park Apartments Saturday afternoon, April 3.

Imperial County, Brawley, Calipatria, and Westmorland Fire Departments, and the Office of Emergency Services, responded to the blaze at 115 Desert Shores Road around 4:30 p.m., said Imperial County Battalion Chief Angel Morales.

Multiple structures were engulfed in flames in addition to outdoor structures, as noted by an ICFD Facebook post, yet Morales said a total of five trailers were damaged.

He said three families were displaced, while the two families who lived in the remaining trailers were out of town at the time of the fire.

“Right now, we're still doing investigation so we still haven't determined the cause of (the fire),” Morales said.

Though fire crews contended with some light winds Saturday, Morales said the fire was contained within 30-to-40 minutes.

Morales said American Red Cross was on scene to assist the displaced families, but the American Red Cross was not able to respond as to whether all of the families — including those who weren’t present at the time of the blaze — received assistance by press time Monday, April 5.

Morales said he encourages Imperial County residents to continue to be safe.
