EL CENTRO – The Imperial Valley is poised to be a major contributor in helping California achieve its renewable energy portfolio standards of 33 percent renewable energy by 2020.

The Valley’s efforts will be highlighted at the sixth annual Imperial Valley Renewable Energy Summit & Expo hosted by the Imperial Valley Economic Development Corporation (IVEDC). Titled “Imperial Valley: The Power of Opportunity,” the event will take place on March 13-15 at the Barbara Worth Resort in Holtville, CA.

Currently, Imperial Valley exports over 500 megawatts of renewable energy to surrounding communities. With the addition of 30 new renewable energy projects that are under development and upon construction would produce up to 2,500 megawatts of renewable energy.

During the last five years, the Energy Summit has attracted a growing number of high caliber renewable energy industry professionals, policy makers and regulators from every corner of the globe who have voiced their support for the Summit. With over 500 attendees, the summit is the largest of its type in the region and we anticipate a growing interest in the region and the summit this year.

The Imperial Valley Renewable Energy Summit & Expo offers a comprehensive program of engaging and informative speakers to discuss the issues that are most relevant to the industry. For example, Title sponsor, Imperial Irrigation District, will discuss the New Realities for the Renewable Energy Industry.â

The three-day event will also include a tour of renewable energy facilities, a welcome reception, banquet, business exposition, industry specific breakout sessions and golf tournament.
