SALTON CITY — El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint intercept a methamphetamine smuggling attempt on Sunday, September 15, said a news release from the USBP.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m., when a male driver approached the checkpoint in a green 2006 Acura MDX.

During an immigration inspection in the primary lane, a border patrol canine detection team alerted to the vehicle and agents discovered two small packages concealed inside a baby wipes package located in the rear cargo area of the vehicle.

This is the 118th methamphetamine seizure by El Centro Sector Border Patrol Agents up to date this fiscal year.

“These seizures are an example of the great work and determination of El Centro Sector,” said Acting Chief Patrol Agent Ryan J. Scudder. “Our community is a safer place because of the great work these brave men and women carry out daily.”

The 118 seizures have a combined weight of 2,648.139 pounds, with an estimated street value of $6,090,400.

El Centro Sector Border Patrol is one of the nation’s leader in methamphetamine seizures.

This story makes you wonder, how much of the illegal contraband actually makes it through. This is a sad testimony about America's appetite for illicit drugs.
