BRAWLEY — Police arrested two men days after a stabbing was reported and the victim rushed to a local hospital only to be flown out to a Palm Springs hospital.
Brawley Police Department received a stabbing report July 1 around 12:15 a.m., in the 400 block of North First Street. Brawley officers responded to the area and located a 48-year-old male victim with multiple stab wounds.
The Brawley Fire Department and AMR ambulance services responded to the scene. The victim was transported to Pioneers Memorial Hospital, and later transported by Reach Air Ambulance Services to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. The victim was last listed as stable and expected to recover.
From information gathered during the criminal investigation, two suspects were located later and taken into custody. Mariano Ramon Tabarez, an 18-year-old Brawley resident was located on July 1 in the 200 block of West E Street and arrested without incident. Luis Esteban Gutierrez Jr., an 18-year-old Brawley resident was located on July 3 in the 700 block of Cotton Rosser Road and arrested without incident. Both subjects were booked into the Imperial County jail on the charge of attempted murder.
