BRAWLEY — The City of Brawley approved a resolution, changing the budget for fiscal year 2020/2021 for a donation of $30,000 from an anonymous donor for the specified purchase of personal protective equipment (PPE) for fire personnel.
The PPE required for structural firefighting is specifically sized to an individual and has a recommended lifespan of 10 years. With the recent recruitment activity within the Brawley Fire Department, there is an immediate need to purchase PPE to fit new hires, as well as replacing aging gear worn by existing staff. The donation was made by the private party in direct response to that need.
The donor is a former Brawley resident and has requested that no public recognition be made for their donation.
Brawley Fire Chief Mike York made the presentation to the council. “I spoke to the donor and it was requested that they remain anonymous,” said York. “They were aware of the need of the PPE equipment and this will put every Brawley firefighter in brand new turnouts. This will protect our personnel the best way we can.”
The new PPE will take six to eight weeks to arrive, according to Chief York.
“We would like to thank our anonymous donor for their very generous donation,” Said Mayor Norma Kastner-Jauregui.
