EL CENTRO – Brandon A. Young, the Brawley man who was arrested on suspicion of rape by force, extortion, and possession of child pornography earlier this year, was present at the Imperial County Superior Court in Brawley May 23, for a probation/ sentencing hearing.
Due to the specific nature of this case, the original plea arrangement was withdrawn and a new disposition was reached where the sex charges were dropped but the extortion charge remained.
Young waived his right to a jury trial and pleaded no contest to charge two of felony extortion in violation of penal code 520. He was sentenced to the upper term stipulated of two years in and two years out — meaning Young was credited with time served toward the two years in, then must abide by terms of his probation for an additional two years.
While on probation, Young will have to register as a sex offender for the term of mandatory supervision (two years), attend cognitive behavioral therapy counseling, attend a 52-week anger management program, and complete a sex offender management class among additional fees and program stipulations.
