Mary Bono Mack calls for Salton Sea congressional hearing

SALTON SEA — Rep. Mary Bono Mack on Monday called for a congressional hearing on the Salton Sea in which she’ll urge that authority over the dying lake’s restoration is taken away from the state and returned to the locals.

The hearing — which would likely fall under the jurisdiction of the House Energy and Commerce’s Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy — is seen as a chance for stakeholders to discuss the fiscal realities of the multibillion-dollar restoration plan and the potential dangers of inaction.

Bono Mack, a Palm Springs Republican, said she’s not looking for the federal leaders to step in. But she was not shy in insisting that it is time the local Salton Sea Authority — not the State of California — leads the long-stalled project.

  1. Make it stink in Palm Desert and La Quinta and they will come and the restoration will get funds and be fixed. Good plan IID attorneys good plan.
