EL CENTRO – At their regular meeting of January 8, The Imperial Irrigation Board of Directors voted unanimously to reduce the reconnection fees.
In June, 2012, in an effort to reduce the Energy Department year-end debt write-off, deposit requirements were increased for reconnecting customer accounts that have been disconnected for non-payment.
The reconnection fees were raised to $400.
After a number of complaints and comments to the Board, the newly configured Board felt that the fees were unfair and hard for the ratepayers to come up with, along with clearing up past charges.
After some discussion, the Board decided to take the staff recommendation and lower the residential energy deposit requirement to $25.
Director Bruce Kuhn was absent due to illness.
