EL CENTRO – The Imperial Irrigation District Board of Directors unanimously voted to extend IID General Manager Kevin Kelley’s contract for another two-year term in action taken during a regular meeting April 14. Kelley’s existing employment contract would have ended May 28.
The two-year extension was discussed in open session since issues of compensation for public employees serving the board must be discussed in open session per government code.
“This agreement will be for the same amount as the previous agreement with the same provisions,†said Stephen Benson, IID Board of Directors president. “So, it’s an extension for two more years of Mr. Kelley’s existing agreement.â€
The compensation for the position is $241,596 annually.
“We are putting together goals as a board on what we want to see happen this year, while I’m president, and next year.†said Benson.
Benson directed his remarks directly to Kelley.
“Kevin, you have done a great job in the two years since I’ve been here,†said Benson. “It’s up to staff to support you. This is a transition that is still happening at the IID. There are so many issues out there that we are attacking on a daily basis. I think on the core issues of the Salton Sea, water, and power, we are doing a good job on keeping people engaged. I thank you for that. You don’t get enough thanks.â€
Director Bruce Kuhn also weighed in Kelley’s job performance.
“The QSA lawsuits are settled,†said Kuhn. “The county and the IID are together for the first time in 16 years, all under his watch. This cannot be easily dismissed. Thank you, Kevin.â€
