EL CENTRO – Jaritza Mata, 19 of Brawley, was driving her 2005 Honda Civic southbound on Highway 86 north of Larson Road when she drifted onto the shoulder of Hwy 86. She over-corrected to the left and began to travel across both southbound lanes, and then ran off the east road edge and into the dirt center median. Her car began to roll until it came to a rest.
Javier Garcia, 24 from Brawley, was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the Honda breaking his femur and suffering abrasions.
The other passenger not buckled was a 27 year old female from Calexico whose name has not been released. She was also ejected from the car and sustained fatal blunt force injuries.
Mata and Juan Simo, 20 from Brawley, suffered moderate injuries. Simo complained of pain and was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center. Mata complained of pain and abrasions but was not taken to the hospital.
Investigating CHP Officer Beltran reported that no arrests had been made.
