Heber Elementary School District Hires Superintendent



HEBER – During the regularly scheduled meeting of the Heber Elementary School District (HESD) Board of Trustees Thursday evening on October 13, the board formally approved the hiring of Juan Cruz as the HESD Superintendent.

Mr. Cruz assumes the role after most recently being the Interim-Superintendent for the HESD since September of this year after the former HESD Superintendent, Jaime Silva, accepted the superintendent position at Brawley Elementary School District.

Prior to September, Mr. Cruz was the Chief Student Services Officer for the Imperial County Office of Education.

“Mr. Cruz has been a long-time contributor to education in Imperial County, and I’m excited to see him in this new role as Superintendent for HESD,” said Dr. Todd Finnell, County Superintendent of Schools. “His work in districts and at the Imperial County Office of Education over the years has been greatly valued. He will continue to make a difference for kids and families as Superintendent, and I look forward to working closely with him in this role.”

Since Mr. Cruz was serving as the interim-superintendent, he will assume his duties immediately.

The HESD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the new superintendent’s contract and the current board president.
