CALEXICO — Vo Medical Center hosted its first mass COVID-19 vaccination drive thru clinic Sunday, February 21, at the Calexico 10 Theatre parking lot.

The appointment only clinic was held for Imperial County residents 65 years of age and older. Approximately 1,000 doses of vaccines were available for the clinic. He said about 700 locals turned out for the vaccination event.

The remaining vaccines from the mass vaccination event held Sunday (approximately 400) were utilized Monday, February 22.

Dr. Vo received the 1,000 Pfizer vaccines from the Imperial County Public Health Department on Friday and immediately prepped for distribution.

Dr. Vo Received an additional 600 doses of the Moderna vaccine on February 22 and planned to disseminate them between his three clinics — Calexico, El Centro, and Brawley — through February 23 by online appointment. He explained the additional 600 doses were not to be used in a mass event setting.

He said he felt “nervous because I had to get 1,000 doses out in a short few days and we really weren't ready to do mass vaccination yet, and then happy because I had the opportunity to do it, but after I talked to my staff and volunteers I decided, 'Let's do it.'”

He plans to continue hosting mass vaccination clinics as more vaccine becomes available. He will share more information as it becomes available.
