IMPERIAL – The roaring sounds of racing engines will return to the Imperial Fairgrounds Raceway as Imperial Motorsport Promotions presents the California Lightning Sprints and Dwarf Cars to the Imperial Valley, Saturday night, November 16th.
The California Lightning Sprints (CLS) are a Southern California based 1200cc Mini-Sprint club. The group competes in both winged and non-winged events at the Perris, Bakersfield, Ventura, Santa Maria, Barona, and Victorville clay ovals. Reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph, the cars of the CLS may be small in size, but they are big on excitement!
Dwarf cars are a throwback to the Jalopy races that ran at the Fairgrounds in the 1950’s, only smaller. They use bodies of vintage coupes, sedans or pickup trucks fashioned similar to cars built from 1928 to 1948 and use motorcycle engines with a maximum displacement of 1250 cubic centimeters.
A specially constructed ¼ mile track has been built utilizing the front straight of the larger Fairgrounds track to bring the action closer to race fans. The event November 16th will be the inaugural one on the oval which should be ideal for both racing groups on tap.
Racing begins at 6pm.
Tickets will be just $10 for adults, $5 for children 7-12 and youngsters 6 and under will be free.
