El Centro Male Arrested With Loaded Firearm

EL CENTRO —On Monday, September 19, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Officer James Thompson was patrolling the 700 block of Adams Avenue, following a reported robbery.

While patrolling, Officer Thompson noticed a male subject walking north down an alley and attempted to contact him.

According to the El Centro police report, the male, later identified as 19-year-old El Centro resident, Miguel Armando Ocegueda, began running from the officer. Officer Thompson immediately broadcasted over his radio a description of Ocegueda, including his clothing. Sergeant Steve Fisher who had just left the scene of the robbery heard Officer Thompson’s radio traffic and saw Ocegueda running southbound through a dirt lot towards a residence in the 700 block of Adams Avenue. As Ocegueda rounded a corner, Sergeant Fisher noticed Ocegueda was carrying a handgun in his right hand. Sergeant Fisher then gave chase and Ocegueda tossed the handgun behind an abandoned refrigerator.

Ocegueda was arrested and taken into custody without further incident. Officers recovered the handgun and found that it was loaded and operable. Ocegueda was booked and charged at the county jail for possession of a loaded and concealed firearm in public, and resisting, and delaying a police officer.
