CHP reports fatality outside Brawley


CHP new logoBRAWLEY – Thursday, July 25, at 10:00 p.m., a Hispanic 21 year old male from Calexico,  was driving a 1994 BMW 325i on  Highway 78 westbound approaching  the intersection with Highway115.

Jose Garcia, 45 from Calipatria, was driving a 2012 GMC Sierra on Highway 115 northbound, approaching the intersection  of Highway 78.  The 21 year old Calexico resident entered the intersection directly into the path of the GMC, subsequently the front of the GMC collided with the left side of the BMW.

The young man  sustained major injuries as a result of this collision and was taken to Desert Regional Hospital by Reach Air Ambulance.  He later succumbed to his injuries.

Teresa Pina, 33 of Calipatria was the passenger of Jose Garcia and she sustained injuries that caused pain to her neck, shoulder and chest. Pina was taken to Pioneers Hospital in Brawley.

This collision is still under investigation.
