The town of Brawley had been waiting all year, and it seems that everything has been a rush toward Cattle Call. Now that it’s finally here the town is so excited to see it all come together, and hope everyone will join us for the week of great events.
Since Brawley now owns Main Street, it now has very high hopes for moving the events to Plaza Park. With Main Street closed from Plaza to Plaza, we have a rare opportunity to host events right in the middle of downtown.
The new location offers a lot of space, shade, and a beautiful setting for the Chili Cook Off and Mariachi Night. The City of Brawley has been incredibly helpful in making this possible, but they are going to need help from everyone attending as well.
The Chili Cook Off relies on its “gate” fees to cover a lot of expenses, but this year there will be no gate. Each person will be asked to go to one of the several ticket booths that will be available to pay $2 for a People’s Choice Ballot and a chance to sample chili from 14 teams.
So while you can approach the park from any direction and take a look around, please make your way to a ticket booth to support the Chamber and the contestants who work so hard on this event.
Another distinction of this year’s open setting is that there will be no beer garden. For the Chili Cook Off and Mariachi Night it will be possible to purchase your beer at the booth (after getting your ID bracelet) and then enjoy it anywhere within the confines of Plaza Park.
This gives everyone greater flexibility to enjoy their drinks and their meals together, or walk the event with a beer in hand. It also means that we are counting on everyone to be responsible and courteous.
Finally, Mariachi Night will benefit from the bleachers being in place for the Cattle Call Parade. The Mariachis will perform from the Kiwanis Kiosk in North Plaza, and there will be plenty of seating on Main Street for those who want to relax and enjoy the show.
The City of Brawley has high hopes that this will be the first year of many where our events are held downtown, and that everyone will come together and really celebrate the spirit of Cattle Call. Please help Brawley make Cattle Call week a success, and share in their Rodeo Dreams.
Keep an eye out for our December newsletter, but for now come out and enjoy the festivities.
