BUHS volleyball looses straight sets to Palm Desert

Brawley Wildcat Alex Baron, junior, catches air as she defends against Palm Desert

BRAWLEY – Wednesday night’s volleyball home opener against the Palm Desert Aztecs could not have gone any worse for the Brawley High Wildcats as Palm Desert marched right into Wildcat Territory and walked right out with an impressive straight set victory.

Winning with scores of 21-25, 16-25, and 17-25, the Aztecs seemed to be a bit fresher and were a step quicker, while also enjoying a height advantage.

Each of the three games played out exactly the same with the Aztecs taking a comfortable early lead and controlling the action and the score throughout the rest of the game.

Any time the Wildcats could string together points, the Aztecs went on a run of their own, keeping the wildcats on their heels, and momentum on their side.

“I think tonight we played as bad as we could have possibly played.  I think we made a lot of mistakes.”  Brawley head coach, Phillip Finnell said after the loss.  “Were going to work hard on moving forward, and doing a better job,” he added, looking toward the future.

With the loss the Wildcats fall to 2-7 on the season and are at La Quinta next Monday, while the Palm Desert Aztecs improve to 7-1 and have Shadow Hills at home next Thursday.
