EL CENTRO — The Imperial County Area Agency on Aging (AAA), working in conjunction with state and local officials put in place a plan to help keep Valley seniors, employees, and the community healthy and informed, as the coronavirus impact progresses.

In order to comply with federal, state, and local guidelines and reduce the risk to senior participants, AAA announced it has closed all senior nutrition congregate sites for dining until further notice, according to a recent release from the AAA.

Participants will start receiving meals at their home address this week, the release said. Deliveries will be staggered throughout the week to be able to serve all clients. AAA said it hopes to transition to home deliveries with few setbacks to meet its goal to make sure seniors receive their daily meal, which is essential to their health and well-being.

Seniors, age 60 or more, interested in signing up for the program, are asked to contact Catholic Charities, the Senior Nutrition Provider, to sign up at (760) 353-2748. In-home delivered meal services will continue as scheduled.

The Imperial County Public Administrator and Area Agency on Aging offices remain closed to the public, call (442) 265-7000 to schedule an appointment.  If you are a senior needing assistance with food or other basic supplies, please contact the Area Agency on Aging office at (442) 265-7030 to make an appointment or schedule a delivery.
