IMPERIAL –Â The Fitness Oasis Health Club and Spa sponsored a Zumba Master Class in memory of Susita Salazar Saturday afternoon. The fundraiser included lively Zumba instruction, as well as raffles for attendees. All proceeds raised from the event were given to the mother of Salazar, to help pay for funeral expenses.
Salazar passed away tragically at the age of 28, leaving behind four children. Dalia Rodriguez, owner of the all women’s Health Club and Spa said, “When we heard about [Salazar’s] passing, we wanted to help in any way that we could.â€
“I view our role in the community as for giving back. We are blessed to do the right thing,†Rodriguez said. Â
The event was organized by Susana Yancy, a group exercise instructor who has been at Fitness Oasis for six years. Â
“Hearing of this sudden death of a young lady, I knew I wanted to help,†said Yancy.
“We live in a small community, and here we always help each other out. What better way than to dance it off?†Yancy said.
Fitness Oasis Health Club and Spa recently remodeled a portion of the health club, and hosts many events throughout the year to benefit people and organizations in need.
Rodriguez, who is a pet advocate and current president of the Imperial Valley Humane Society, often combines her passion for animals and fitness together in holding fundraisers at the Health Club to benefit the Humane Society.
Additionally, Rodriguez is expanding the health club to include a new plant-based restaurant for the Valley. The restaurant will serve plant-based, organic foods on a small but tasty menu, Rodriguez said. She said she hopes to open the restaurant in the next 30 days.
