Writer thinks new opportunity at hand for IID

letter to the editorIID had not yet developed effective solutions and found ways to find and fund impact investmens that focus on solving societal and environmental problems while creating revenue which rewards all citizens of Imperial Valley until now….

Thanks to a new board and very creative advanced thinking by Director Hanks, business leadership from Director Benson, social effects concepts from Director Galendo, historical errors correction by Director Kuhn and on ground leadership by Director Dessert, the IID is on threshold of a major change, a paradigm shift in  mission and management.

A new approach has been evolving this past 4 years since the QSA was first invalidated. The opportunity at hand may very well provide a unique second chance to renegotiate the QSA with a new mindset toward creative, rational and fair solutions, replacing the fear based and bullied original contract.
IID getting in league with the future, bringing in one of the best water attorneys in the country, now needs encouragement and support to create a new image with Christal Balvin leading that effort, a new economic based plan with Tom Havens – American Water Resources and a profound contract and political effort by Ron Olson, one of the top attorneys in the country in complex contract law with a powerful political base.
This new expert team is required to level the playing field.  IID, facing many powerful institutions with experienced staff and management, can no longer get by with anything less that the best. To move to a higher level with synergy and flexibility, IID will evolve to be the leader it can and must be.
Cooperation, collaboration and unity are critical immediately…( 45 day deadline-requires crisis management, strict accountability with new team ASAP ) Strategic management of this process could make or break the valley. The transformation of IID from just an irrigation district; to a forward thinking institution utilizing private capital to solve societal problems will set the standard going forward. This is people in action, not waiting for a government bureaucratic time consuming-questionable process.
DM2—Desert Miracle Number Two is possible now if you think it can be, if you want it and if you make it happen…
United we stand, divided we fall…Truth to Power.
As Hanks says,”We have the DNA to make it happen, and we owe it to the pioneers, to ourselves and to our children.”
The fact that our priority water right is worth billions is neither fair or unfair, it is just the way it is…If we don’t stand up to maximize the value of our assets creating prosperity for ourselves, it is all transferred to millions living outside the valley  leaving IID with financial risk and environmental liability which could be catastrophic. Is that what you want ?
IID has always had the best cards, it just lacked the vision and culture to play a winning hand…That has changed…If you care enough, use the very best…
Start with the Truth; End with The Truth    IID now moving to a higher level will transform Imperial Valley from poverty to prosperity. Truth will set you free…..It is in our DNA, lets make it happen. If not us, who? If not now, when?
ONWARD AND UPWARD
