SAN MARCOS — The Brawley Union High wrestling team won the Mission Hills Tournament here at Mission Hills High School on Dec. 30.

Brawley netted 232.5 points with 12 wrestlers beating Escondido (170) and the rest of the field to capture its first tournament title of the season.

The Wildcats had four individual champions with Victor Gonzalez winning at 138 pounds, Ruben Elizalde won the 145-pound division, Daniel Jauregui Jr. won at 195 pounds, and Dane Martinez won the 220-pound division.

Elizalde also walked away with the Most Outstanding Lightweight of the tournament award.

Also in the tournament, Helmer Nunez took fifth at 106, J.C. Rouhotas placed fifth at 120, Luis Bravo took third at 120, Dylan West took third at 132, Charlie Valdivia finished fourth at 152, Manuel Morales took second at 160 and Luis Chavez finished second at 170.

 

Imperial has champions

SAN MARCOS — The Imperial High wrestling team returned with two champions from the Mission Hills tournament here Dec. 30.

The Tigers’ Nick Hart won the 132-pound weight class and Mitchell Crothers won the 160-pound weight division.

Crothers was named the Most Outstanding Upperweight of the tournament.

 

Southwest returns with medals

CORONA — The Southwest High wrestling team competed in the Shark Tank Wrestling tournament at Santiago High here on Dec. 30 and returned with a few medals.

Southwest’s Keyanu Bueno took second place at 126 pounds, Julien Tabarez finished third at 132 and Joel Alvarez took sixth in the 138-pound division.

 

Brawley wins Frosh/Soph tournament

CHULA VISTA — Brawley Union High won the Hilltop Frosh/Soph duel tournament here on Saturday.

The Wildcats were undefeated in pool play beating St. Augustine 60-9, Mar Vista 51-21, Hilltop 61-3 and Grossmont 64-12 to advance to the finals.

In the finals Brawley beat Olympian High, 52-24, to win the team title.
