SALTON CITY – El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Highway 86 checkpoint arrested a 21-year-old woman suspected of smuggling methamphetamine with her four-year-old daughter in the vehicle Wednesday morning.
According to a press release, the woman’s vehicle was stopped just after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday for inspection by agents, and detection by a canine team prompted agents to refer her to a secondary inspection area.
Agents discovered five packages of methamphetamine in the rear passenger’s seat. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $51,360.
“This is an example of the lengths criminals are willing to go through in order to blend in,” Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim said. “They will put their kids at risk by involving them in narcotics trafficking activities.”
According to law enforcement, the woman, her child, her vehicle and the narcotics were turned over to the custody of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
