EL CENTRO – In their last game of the season, the Brawley Wildcat girls brought their A-game against the Southwest Eagles. Both teams fought hard, the Eagles having a little more to fight for since the game was on their home field, but it was the Wildcats who triumphed in the end, 7-5.
Despite their eventual loss, the Eagles started out strong in the first inning. They managed to keep the Wildcats off the board while scoring two runs for themselves.
In answer to the Eagles’ challenge, the Wildcats seemed to say, “Watch this” as they went on to score a remarkable five runs in the top of the second inning. The Eagles had no answer for the Wildcats in the second inning, and were only able to score three more runs before the end of the game. The Wildcats managed two runs in the sixth inning and carried their lead through the end to win 7-5.
Offensively for the Wildcats, it was junior Alisha Diaz who led the team going 2-4 with two RBIs. After Diaz was sophomore Taylor Carranza who was 1-3, with one run scored and two RBIs. Following Carranza was junior Jazmine Jones who was 1-4 with two RBIs.
For the Eagles, Victoria Martinez led going 3-4 with one RBI. After Martinez was Celeste Bernal who went 2-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Following Bernal was Emily Tellez who was 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
