EL CENTRO – Due to high demand for another movie premier, the Imperial Valley Film Commission hosted a premier party for the long awaited movie, Pitch Perfect 2, “The Pitches are Back” on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Imperial Valley Mall in El Centro.
Hundreds attended the event not knowing a musical surprise awaited them. The Imperial High School Advanced Choir sang a cappella many of the popular Pitch Perfect songs. Imperial High School Senior, Saida Rios, lead the first a cappella song with her solo “Please Don’t Stop The Music.”
“Due to high demand, numerous phone calls and public requests we organized the premier party for the Pitch Perfect 2 movie,” said Charla Teeters Stewart, Imperial Valley Film Commissioner. “Over 200 tickets sold for this event so far.”
“It took my students approximately three weeks to rehearse the songs. We were on a tight schedule, however, they did a great job,” George Scott, Imperial High School Choir Director said. “My students enjoy singing in front of crowds who appreciate their work, they love this stuff.”
“We are very excited and proud of our daughter, Saida. This is her senior year and having a solo is very special,” said Bill and Susie Haynes. “Saida has been in choir for ten years and is looking forward to joining the Choral Choir at IVC after graduation.”
Pitch Perfect became one of the 2012 biggest box office success stories and Pitch Perfect 2 won’t be the exception. Disgraced and barred from competing in nationals, the Barden Bellas find a loophole that allows them to enter the upcoming world competition in Copenhagen. The group also faces many obstacles. Among them, the Teutonic menace known as Das Sound Machine—a troupe of towering Germans who sing like angels and dress like sex-club Sprockets.
Sandy Garrett, 17, from El Centro said, “I have been waiting for this movie anxiously and can’t wait to see it. I had no idea I was coming to this event, my mom surprised me and two of my friends and we are happy.”
