Valley Vegetable Growers announce new scholarship

EL CENTRO – The Imperial Valley Vegetable Growers Association (IVGA) is pleased to announce three scholarship opportunities for 2014.

The first is the long-standing Produce Industry Scholarship which will award a minimum of one (1) $1000.00 scholarship and at least two others smaller scholarships.

The second is their partnership with Farm Credit Services Southwest to award one (1) $1500 scholarship.

The third is a new scholarship program, named for Philip Vessey, to award up to two (2) $1000.00 scholarship.

Kay Day Pricola, executive director of the IVGA said, “We are pleased the Vessey family chose the Imperial Valley Vegetable Growers Association to manage the Memorial Scholarship of their son.”

All three scholarships require the applicant to attend a four-year college, major in a recognized agricultural program and have a 2.5 minimum grade point average.

The Vessey Scholarship has an additional criterion that the recipient is or will be a graduate of Holtville High School.


All applications must be completed and returned by April 18, 2014.

  1. That was the most rediculous comment I’ve ever seen on here.

    As an ag student, and a student who DOESN’T recieve financial aid, (which is what your tax dollars are actually spent on)…. It is the only way for some of us to actually get through school. Do your research, it is a DONATION.

  2. oh my God they are going to go broke with these scholarships! We better push for more tax breaks for farmers.

    • Wow, really? These scholarships help students out like my daughter who has an Ag. back ground and going on to pursue it!!! That was uncalled for Jorge!
