  • Individuals that live in the outskirts of the City of Brawley, who had damages as a result of the earthquakes and need an inspection of their property are encouraged to call the Imperial County Planning and Building Department at 760-482-4236.
  • The following private schools have been added to the list of school closures in Brawley:
  • Brawley Christian Academy
  • Sacred Heart School.
  • Proclamation of a local emergency: Imperial County staff is working in conjunction with the City of Brawley to determine if the County will be proclaiming a local emergency. A decision should be made by this afternoon.
  • The American Red Cross opened up a shelter at the Imperial Valley College Gymnasium yesterday evening for individuals that have been displaced as a result of the earthquake. There were a few individuals at the shelter last night.

  • Individuals and families are encouraged to have an emergency plan in place and have an emergency preparedness kit available to include the following items:
  • Water—one gallon per person, per day
  • Food—non-perishable, easy-to-prepare
  • Flashlight
  • Battery-powered or hand-crank radio (NOAA Weather Radio, if possible)
  • Extra batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Medications (7-day supply) and medical items
  • Multi-purpose tool
  • Sanitation & personal hygiene items
  • Copies of personal documents
  • Cell phone with chargers
  • Family & emergency contact information
