BRAWLEY – The Brawley Chamber of Commerce held orientation for the two Cattle Call Queen contestants Thursday evening at their office as they also hosted the August Chamber Mixer.
Alex Baran, 18 of Brawley, is the sole contestant for the top honor of Cattle Call Queen. Alex is a senior at BUHS, plays varsity volleyball, and has ridden since moving here from Australia as a small child. She is the daughter of Sue and Hank Baran.
Although Alex will have no competition, the pretty brunette has honed her royalty skills by beating a large field when she first ran for Junior Queen, a division the Chamber no longer offers.
Alex went on to compete for Cattle Call Teen Queen when she was an 8th grader and won the title.
Alex will carry the high distinction to be the first to win all three divisions of Cattle Call Teen Queen, Junior, and once coroneted in October, Cattle Call Queen.
Little Miss, while still active for the chamber, had no contestants.
The other young lady competing for Teen Queen is Sarah Grizzle, 13, from Holtville. The petite blonde has been riding for three years, competes in the local gymkhana events, attends riding clinics, and is an 8th grader at Holtville Middle School. She is the daughter of Kim and Kevin Grizzle.
Carli Rose and Cailee Roper, the present Cattle Call Queen and Teen Queen, will be doing their final Queen runs during the Horsemanship Competition which the date and the time will be announced soon.
