GLAMIS – On Sunday, December 29th, a 72 year old male from Bull Head City, AZ, succumbed from fatal injuries from a roll over in his sand rail.
Around 1:00 p.m. the victim was riding a 2004 homemade sand rail in the open desert area of the Imperial Sand Dune Recreational area by Glamis, when he ascended a sand hill and he became stuck in the sand.
The driver exited his vehicle in an attempt to dislodge the sand rail. During his attempt, the sand rail became loose and rolled on top of the driver causing the fatal injuries.
This collision is still under investigation.
The second dune fatality occurred also on Sunday, December 29th.
Around 10:30 a.m. a 15 year old male from Castle Rock, Colorado was driving his 2003 Honda 400EX westbound on the “Sand Highway” in the Glamis Sand Dunes Area when a 19-year old from Yuma, Colorado, traveling eastbound in a sandrail, collided head on at the crest of a small hill.
It is unknown what caused the collision, but the 15 –year old was ejected during the collision and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Injuries to the 19 year old are unknown at this printing.
The collision is still under investigation.
