EL CENTRO – Officials from Caltrans, the Imperial County Transportation Commission and the California Highway Patrol gathered together in El Centro to provide information about upcoming transportation projects in Imperial County and to celebrate the start of construction on the I-8 Update Project – one of the most significant in the region.
“We are making an extraordinary investment in transportation improvements in Imperial County,” said Caltrans District 11 Director Laurie Berman. “In fact, there are more than $500 million in planned projects during the next four years.”
Berman said the upcoming construction work will mean jobs, improved road conditions and a better transportation system for the region.
Projects mentioned included a new maintenance facility in El Centro that will be completed in spring 2017 and pavement rehabilitation and/or operational improvement projects on nearly every state highway in the county.
The event also featured a groundbreaking ceremony for the 48-mile, $417 million I-8 Update Project.
