EL CENTRO – On Thursday, July 14, at around 9:43 a.m., Jasmin Escobar, age 20 of Brawley, was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla southbound on Dogwood Road, south of Willoughby Road. Mariah Rios Martinez, age 40 of Brawley, was seated in the right front passenger seat in the Corolla.
As Jasmin traveled southbound, she allowed her vehicle to move to the left and into the oncoming traffic lane.
Maria Bautista, age 39 of Calexico, was driving a 2004 Ford F-150 northbound on Dogwood Road. Victor Serna, age 21 of Calexico and a 2-year-old were passengers in the F-150.
While travelling northbound, Maria attempted to avoid the collision with the Corolla, moving her vehicle to the right and slightly off the roadway when the collision was inevitable and occurred causing the F-150 to roll over and come to a rest on its roof in a westerly direction. The Corolla continued in a southerly direction and came to a stop off the roadway.
Upon CHP contact with Jasmin and a DUI investigation, Jasmin was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
Both drivers and passengers except the 2-year-old sustained minor injuries. Mariah Rios Martinez passenger of the Corolla was transported to ECRMC for medical treatment.
The collision is still under investigation
